When the Philistines captured the ark of God, they brought it from Ebenezer to Ashdod. Then the Philistines took the ark of God and brought it into the house of Dagon and set it up beside Dagon. And when the people of Ashdod rose early the next day, behold, Dagon had fallen face downward on the ground before the ark of the Lord. So they took Dagon and put him back in his place. (1 Samuel 5:1-3)
What do you place your trust in?
I used to think of an idol only as a statue depicting some fictitious god, like Dagon–but the truth is, money can be an idol, my career, my spouse, my children, my intellect and abilities, my habits–all of these can be idols. An idol is anything we put before God (as in our dependence also) and before God every one of them will fall.
Who are you relying on?
People will fail us no matter how great they are. There is only One who is able. Trust Him. Rely and depend on Him alone.
Prayer Starter: Lord, show me where my hope lies. Show me where I am placing my confidence, and in what and whom I have put my faith. Lord, give me eyes that see Your sovereignty. Teach me to put all of my trust in You alone.
